Guy Fawkes Night is a British celebration. People also call it Bonfire
Night. It is a special day when British people celebrate the failure of Guy
Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament on 5th November,1605.
This celebration takes place at night in towns and villages all over the
country. People get together with their family and friends and light
bonfires and watch fireworks displays.
Traditionally, they burn a dummy of Guy Fawkes called a ‘guy’ on the
bonfire and children hold small fireworks in their hands called ‘sparklers’.
People also eat some traditional food on this night such as toffee
apples, baked potatoes and a
special cake called ‘parkin’! Check these words
